THE CLIENT: CHILDREN’S HEALTH, DALLAS, TX
Children’s Health is one of the nation’s leading pediatric health care systems, providing a full spectrum of healthcare services for children in Dallas, North Texas and surrounding regions.

The challenge to Southerland Partners: find a Senior Vice President and Administrator for the Plano Campus.

The Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Kim Besse, worked with Keith Southerland previously and contacted him to spearhead the search. She says:

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is an 819-bed regional medical center, is among the largest public health systems in Florida. With more than 4,000 staff, 800 physicians and 1,000 volunteers, it is one of Sarasota County’s largest employers. A community hospital founded in 1925, Sarasota Memorial is governed by the nine-member elected Sarasota County Public Hospital Board. It is a full-service health system, with specialized expertise in heart, vascular, cancer, and neuroscience services, as well as a network of outpatient centers, long-term care and rehabilitation among its many programs.

The challenge to Southerland Partners: find a chief operating officer.

According to CEO David Verinder, the job opening created a large amount of interest, but he knew he had to find the right person for this extremely important position. He contacted Keith Southerland:

The challenge to Southerland Partners: find a Chief Financial Officer that understands how to work within a children’s hospital system

Rick Merrill, President and Chief Executive Officer, further explained the characteristics of the person needed to fill the CFO position. He explained:
“Working at a children’s hospital requires a person who is called. It is beyond a commitment – an intangible that brings you back to work every day. Families in our system have children with significant diseases and complications. Our CFO must understand government reimbursement, regulations and rules while ensuring we have adequate resources available to meet the financial circumstances of our families.”

Merrill had worked with Southerland previously in other searches:

THE CLIENT: READING HEALTH SYSTEMS
RHS includes Reading Hospital, a 730-bed acute care hospital, 7,300 team members and more than 1,000 physicians and providers across 46 locations. RHS nears completion of a $350 million dollar building project that included a 475 thousand square-foot surgical tower that will be one of the most sophisticated in the region, trauma center, with an Advanced Certified Primary Stroke Center and world-class cardiac center, both among the top 100 in the nation.

The need: Chief Financial Officer

Clint Matthews is President and CEO of Reading Health Systems. He had worked with Keith Southerland previously on other searches and knew that his firm would be the best to contact to get the right candidate.
